We will open the doors to the city for you at the emblematic Clock Tower, La Torre del Reloj, then we will walk in through the walls of the city going into the Plaza de los Coches and the Portal de los Dulces. Cartagena de Indias was the most important city in the new world and the Spanish crown spent a lot much money in fortifying its walls. The heavy fortifications are an impressive sight.
We will visit the Plaza de la Aduana, a port from which the Spaniards shipped all the gold and silver of South-America to Spain. You will then get to see the Iglesia de San Pedro Claver. The church of a saint who saved many black slaves from death and declared himself as the "slave of the slaves".
After that, we will go by the narrow streets of the old city to the Plaza de Bolívar, where you will see the Gold Museum and the Inquisition Palace. Will keep on walking to the Plaza de Santo Domingo where the sculpture of a fat lady awaits you as well as many classical and beautiful buildings. Our tour will continue to the barrio of San Diego and the iglesia de Santo Toribio, and also will go the Plaza de San Diego. On the way, you will hear from me about stories of pirates and of García Márquez, the most famous Colombian writer, recipient of a Nobel Prize for literature.
