The tour will cover both The Peranakan Museum and Asian Civilizations Museum. In this tour of The Peranakan Museum, we will discover more of the Peranakan community, its culture and history. We will also discover the historical connections between the cultures of Asia, and between Asia and the world from The Asian Civilizations Museum.
The Peranakan Museum is a museum in Singapore specializing in Peranakan culture and explores Peranakan cultures in Singapore and other former Straits Settlements in Malacca and Penang, and other Peranakan communities in Southeast Asia. It is housed in the Old Tao Nan School building at Armenian Street, which once served as an extended wing to the artifact collection of the Asian Civilizations Museum. The museum is a component of the Asian Civilizations Museum, operating under the National Heritage Board.
The Asian Civilizations Museum specializes in pan-Asian cultures and civilizations. The museum specialists in the material history of China, Southeast Asia, South Asia and West Asia, from which the diverse ethnic groups of Singapore trace their ancestry.
The Tour will comprise of 2 parts, commencing with a 1.5 hour tour at The Peranakan Museum before adjourning to the Asian Civilizations Museum for the balance 1.5 hour tour.
